Genesis 1:26a, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…’”
The pinnacle of creation is mankind, who is made in the image of God.
I’d venture to say it’s something we don’t consider all that frequently, but the fact that we have been made in the image and likeness of God is worthy of constant contemplation. We have His impression, we are His representation, we are rational creatures, social creatures, moral creatures and most importantly – spiritual creatures.
As rational people we can think with reason; as social people, we can have deep relationships with others; as moral people (with a conscience) we know the difference between right and wrong; and as spiritual people we can actually have a relationship and fellowship with God!
Whatever you do, don’t buy the lie that you are a by-product of evolution, an accident, with no inherent purpose. I pray you would know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) in the very image and likeness of God!
So what does this mean? It means so much – that we are to rise far above animal instincts and live in the rational, social, moral, and spiritual plane!
One time the religious leaders, wanting to test Jesus, asked Him if it was right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Jesus, in His brilliance, asked them to bring Him a coin of the day (a denarius). We read what happened next in Matthew 22:20-21, “And He said to them, ‘Whose image and inscription is this?’ They said to Him, ‘Caesar’s.’ And He said to them, ‘Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.’” It makes perfect sense, since the coin has Caesar’s image, go ahead and give the coin to Caesar, and since we’ve been made in the image of God, I would say we should give our lives to Him! Wouldn’t you?
Until the whole world hears, your brother in Christ,
