Genesis 3:8-9, 21, “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, ‘Where are you?’ Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”
Christian, did you know you’re the “Best Dressed?” We learn that early-on in the Bible, right after sin entered the world.
We can assume that God had a pattern of previously “walking” with Adam and Eve in that gorgeous Garden, in the cool of the day, each and every day (imagine that). But when the Lord arrived for their customary walk together, Adam and Eve had hidden themselves from the presence of the LORD.
Of course we know they had fallen, and great was their fall. They knew they were guilty of sin and they were fully aware of the fact that they only deserved judgment. They were afraid! What would God do? What DID God do?
He gave them grace. He didn’t just show them grace, He showered them with Grace. He knew they had fallen, but He came to them, He called to them, and He even clothed them. We read in v. 21 that He covered them with tunics of skin, which means that animals had to die in order for their shame to be taken away; blood was shed on their behalf (Hebrews 9:22).
Of course we know this is a picture of what Jesus has done for us on the cross of Calvary. He died, His blood was shed that we might clothed in the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21; Revelation 1:5).
I encourage you to check out these passages in the Bible, on how those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ will be clothed with white robes of righteousness, and garments of God’s lovely linen (Revelation 3:5, 18; 4:4 19:14); our filthiness and shame will be removed, and replaced with robes of God’s riches (Zechariah 3:3-4).
Christian friend, you really are the best dressed – no more sin, no more guilt, no more shame, there’s no longer any reason to hide. And the interesting thing is now we have even more of a reason to walk with God – His grace is amazing.!
